Fighting – One night, three cities, two states
Tuesday, October 26th, 2010On November 6th, 2010, Butch Hiles Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & MMA, LLC will continue to be the busiest gym in the area as they will take fighters to three different cities, and two different states, in just one night.
“This will be a challenge for us,” says gym owner Butch Hiles, “but the greater the risk is the greater the reward.”
They will have to split up their trainers and coaches, and this is something that they typically do not like to do. However, they feel that the opportunities that they have cannot be wasted.
“Jason Pauley will take his undefeated professional record to Logan, WV and he is on a quest for the WV state title, so this is a fight he had to take. We also have two fighters that have been itching to fight MMA for about a year or more and it just so happened that the best chance of them fighting close to home was on the same date as Pauley’s fight (even though this is in KY because MMA continues to be illegal in WV). So, the decision was made early on to split up and take these fights. However, we had no idea that several more opportunities would arise. We now have an additional four guys fighting in Logan and Charleston, which means we are very busy in and out of the gym. It’s craziness….,” states Hiles.
Being busy isn’t something that is new to Butch Hiles, however. In addition to their many fighters he also runs several shows and tournaments each year, teaches and hosts seminars, and trains several athletes in the largest gym in the state. Their gym is currently three floors with weights, boxing, kickboxing, judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, and mountain athlete crossfit workouts.
You might ask, how does he do it all? He answers with a simple reply, dedication.
“I’m dedicated to anything I am involved with and I don’t believe in doing anything half hearted. Therefore, I put everything I have into my gym and each and every person in it. People see this and feel this, and I get the same dedication out of them. You don’t have to be a fighter at our gym. In fact, we have 175 members who don’t compete. They are just there to have fun, get in shape, and learn something useful. However, if pushed to the limit each and everyone one of them would give someone a real bad day, but the point is I am just as dedicated to these guys as the ones who go out and compete. I don’t care what your goal is. I just want you to have a goal and then I want you to go out and achieve it.
I will always be dedicated to my friends, teammates, and family. People at our gym are part of something bigger then just going out and competing so the trainer or fighter can prove something. This isn’t about having any one’s name in the lights, it’s about achieving things together and being dedicated to a common goal. Training should be fun, the people you are around should be good people, and you should be proud of yourself and your teammates in and out of the gym. If you’re not, or can’t be, then you should seriously think about what you’re doing there. In the end, each and every person knows that if they need me I will be there for them no matter what I have to do to make it happen,” Hiles explains.
Look for more big things coming out of Butch Hiles Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & MMA, LLC in the near future. They are finishing off an undefeated year in MMA and boxing and will continue to be on the road at as many shows as possible. Hiles also states that they may be holding another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament and a few other events before the year is out, but is most excited about his trainer, Marcello Monteiro, returning from Brazil to do a seminar this November 15th. It’s an open seminar that anyone can attend and they are sure to get amazing training. To top it all off, Wanderlei Silva, the most famous MMA fighter in the history of the sport will be coming to their gym to train and do a seminar very soon as well.
