Official WV State Championships 2009

General Information

West Virginia State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling Championships

On Saturday, September 5, 2009 Charleston, West Virginia will be holding the official "West Virginia Games" for the first time ever. This will be a huge two day event on Magic Island, which is located on the Kanawha river in the capital of West Virginia. The "West Virginia Games" will feature various sports including volleyball, beach wrestling, boxing, power lifting, 5k run, rack & field, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, and much more. There will also be many kid friendly events and rides to keep the whole family entertained.

This is an important event for our state and we are looking for a lot of competitors to help our sport and martial are grow in West Virginia. The exposure will be very big throughout the state and we expect many local state officials to be there. All local competitors will benefit from the media attention and all out of state competitors are guaranteed to have fun, get good competition, and be part of a larger event that will be fun for the whole family.

This is the official state championships for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling (No Gi Grappling) and, as always, we will have a double elimination format allowing each competitor the most opportunity to compete as possible. There will also be various absolute divisions available, allowing each competitor a chance to compete way more than they usually can at any similar tournament.

There will be children's, teens, women's, and men's divisions and the weight classes for both gi and no gi will be as follows:

Adult Men:
149.9 & Below
150 lbs. to 164.9 lbs.
165 lbs. to 179.9 lbs.
180 lbs. to 194.9 lbs.
195 lbs. to 209.9 lbs.
210 lbs. to 224.9 lbs.
225 lbs. & Above

Adult Women:
135 & Under (Lightweight)
136 & Over (Middleweight)

Weight classes for children and teens will be divided at the tournament but the age brackets will be divided as follows:
Kids 6-8, 9-11, Teens 12-14, 15-17

Experience levels for adult competitors will be white, blue, and purple and above for the adult gi and the no-gi tournament will be as follows:

No-Gi experience levels
BEGINNER (Less than a year experience. No wrestlers with ANY experience at any level of competition. We want this bracket to be for strict beginners only)
INTERMEDIATE (1-3 years exp.)

ADVANCED (3 years +)

Time: 12pm
Weigh-ins: September 4th any time, and September 5th at 9am
Cost: only $30 for one division
$35 to compete in both (gi and no-gi)
Children and youth only $15.
